@flytyerman a 5wt might be a little light for steelies bud. The main problem you will find is you’ll be fighting the fish longer than you need to. That’ll put alot of stress on the fish if you plan on releasing them.

the other problem you might have is that you may end up busting the rod fighting a larger fish.

i have always regular fished for huge pike and walleyes because i basicly grew up on a lake in the middle of nowere, i got into trout fishing about 4 years ago and my friend wants to take me steel head fishing, my strongest rod is a 5 wt, from what i can tell, steel head are tricky fish is a 5 wt ok
